When you don’t have access to your website you can still Change User Password in phpMyAdmin. This situation could happen if you forget your password and the forgot password link doesn’t work or if your site is hacked.

You do need to have access to your cPanel for this to work.

First, log into your hosting account and then locate the phpMyAdmin icon. Click that icon to access your phpMyAdmin.

Once in phpMyAdmin you’ll need to open the database that linked to your WordPress site.

If you’re not sure which database it is, the best thing you can do is open your wp-config.php file to see what the database name is.

Once, you have the database located and opened look for the wp_users table.

Click it to open it. In that table you will see a row for each user on your site.

Find the one that is having password issues. You will see a long string of random characters. It is not the real password, it’s an MD5 Hash of the password.

To get a functioning password attached to the user you’ll need to MD5 Hash a new password.

To do this, Google search for MD5 Hash generator. Type in the password you want for the user and generate the MD5 Hash.

Copy that hash into the password field of the user you want to update. Make sure the characters are saved into the field by refreshing the page.

Now you should have no problem logging into your site. Once you’re in the dashboard you can set a new password or you can keep the one you just created, it’s up to you.
